New Delhi: You must be celebrating your birthday every year. It is an occasion when a person feels special. You must have celebrated the birthdays of your friends and relatives. But have you ever heard of a village's birthday? There is one and the residents of the village consider it an auspicious day.
Kalka Garhi Village celebrates its birthday every year on April 17th. The whole village is decorated and food is prepared for everyone. A havan is also organised for the village.
An old building in the village is decorated on 17th April. A grand program is organised outside this old building.
This custom dates back to the year 1742. The village was established by Chaudhary Gulab Singh Gujjar. Earlier Chaudhary used to reside in a village near Sarojini Nagar. After that, he came to live in Kalka Garhi with his family and established the village.
Dharamveer Singh, a former councillor, spoke to ETV Bharat team about the celebrations. He told the team that on every 17th April all the villagers assemble and celebrates the occasion together.
He also said that the village is around 300 years old and the building is in a very bad state. The roof is weak where trees have outgrown.
He has complained about the condition of the old building to the Delhi Government many times in the past. He also requested the archaeological department to take action and repair the building but has received no help.
The celebration of the village's birthday started as a custom in the year 2000. Since then every 17 April is celebrated as village's birthday.
