New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an elderly man was shot dead by unidentified robbers after he resisted a robbing attempt by the accused in the civil lines area of New Delhi on Monday, police said. Police have registered a case into the murder while the assailants remain to be at large. A police official said that the incident happened on Rajpur Road in Delhi's Civil Line police station area last evening.
The deceased has been identified as Virendra Singh Rawat (55). North District DCP Sagar Singh Kalsi said that on Monday evening at around 7:15 pm, bike rider Virendra Singh Rawat was attacked by motorcycle borne attackers on Rajpur Road in Delhi's Civil Line police station area. As Rawat tried to resist the robbing attempt, the assailants shot at him leaving him in a pool of blood and took away his bag containing some valuables, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died during treatment. Manoj, a relative of the deceased, later lodged a complaint with the police about the incident. Based on the statement of the complainant, the police have registered a case under IPC sections 302/397/34 and 247 Arms Act and have started investigating the case.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused. A special team of police and FSL rushed to the spot of the crime as part of the ongoing investigation. The brother of the deceased Virendra said that he was coming home from his work in the evening when some scooty-borne assailants chased him and carried out the murder.
The murder has taken place at a distance of one kilometer from the Civil Line police station. The residences of the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister as well as their ministers are located in the area.
