To prepare for the surge, the Delhi government is planning to expand its ambulance fleet to 1,000 by June-end to meet the increasing demand. As per the latest numbers issued, Delhi has a total number of 59,746 coronavirus cases.

New Delhi: As coronavirus cases are surging in the national capital, lack of beds and ambulances are posing a major problem for the state government.

It has been estimated that the cases will rise to 80,000 by the end of June and will reach up to 5 lakh by the end of next month.

To prepare for the surge, the government is planning to expand its ambulance fleet to 1,000 by June-end to meet the increasing demand.

The state government has also requested the police to provide 100 PCR vehicles to be used as ambulances.

According to sources, private cab companies will also be deployed as ambulances for non-COVID and non-critical patients in the Capital.

Currently, the state government through its Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) runs about 200 ambulances.

Not only is the government working on increasing the number of ambulances, but they are also working to increase the phone lines for the services.
