New Delhi: Administration and Students Union at Jawaharlal Nehru University have once again come at loggerheads after a road in Jawaharlal Nehru University was named after Veer Damodar Savarkar.

JNU Students' Union President Aishi Ghosh has described it as a shameful act by tweeting on the whole matter.

She tweeted that naming the street after Veer Savarkar is a shame. She further said that there was never a place for Savarkar and his stooges in JNU, nor will there ever be.

"Never did the university had space for Savarkar and his stooges and never will it have!" she added, followed by hashtag #RejectHindutva.

ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) however, condemned Aishi's tweet, saying the Left is trying to present the history of India by turning it apart.

ABVP JNU unit president Shivam Chaurasia said that Veer Savarkar has made commendable contribution in the freedom struggle of our country.

He stood for the freedom of the country by continuously struggling.

Also through his articles, he remains a source of inspiration for the youth even today and naming the road after him is a tribute to him.

He also described the statement of Aishi Ghosh as unfortunate. He said that the ideology of the Left has always been anti-country. They have always been upbraiding freedom fighters and are distorting the history of India and trying to present it before the people with different facts.

The ABVP condemned such anti-country rhetoric, he said.
