New Delhi: In the wake communal violence in the national capital, 1985-batch IPS officer S N Shrivastava has been appointed as new Delhi Police Special Commissioner (Law and Order) on Tuesday night to take control of the situation in the city.
An order issued by the Home Department of the Delhi government said the 1985-batch AGMUT cadre officer is being appointed to the new post with 'immediate effect'.
The Central Reserve Police Force, where Shrivastava was serving as the Special Director General (Training), also issued an order relieving the officer after the Home Ministry ordered his 'premature repatriation' from the paramilitary force.
Hard taskmaker-Shrivastava, who is said to pay attention to the details, assumed charge immediately and took stock of the situation in the capital.
According to officials, Shrivastava, who served the Delhi Police in various capacities in the past has interacted with other police officials and has already chalked out a strategy to restore order and security in the capital.
According to reports, the ongoing violence in the capital has engulfed parts of north-east Delhi since the last two days and has claimed eleven lives, including that of a policeman.
Shrivastava, who holds a B Tech and LLB degree, is also tipped to take over as the new Delhi Police chief after incumbent Amulya Patnaik's extended tenure ends on February 29. He is scheduled to retire in June next year.
Apart from serving as the anti-terror chief in Delhi police till 2015, he has also handled terror operations in Kashmir during his stint in CRPF. During his tenure as the special commissioner in the Special Cell of Delhi Police, was in charge of investigations against the terror group Indian Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
