IndiGo flight makes emergency return to Delhi airport because of technical glitches

Due to a technical snag, a Ranchi-bound Indigo flight made a return landing at Delhi airport and the officials told the passengers that another aircraft is being arranged for their journey, sources said.

New Delhi: An IndiGo flight bound for Ranchi experienced a technical snag shortly after take-off, prompting the pilot to return to Delhi airport for safety reasons.

A passenger on board the flight reported that the pilot made an announcement while the plane was still in the air, informing everyone about the technical glitch in the aircraft and the need to return to Delhi. The specific details of the technical issue were not disclosed, but vibrations were felt on-board during the flight, indicating the seriousness of the situation.

"IndiGo flight 6E 2172 operating from Delhi to Ranchi returned to Delhi today as a precaution due to a momentary technical caution," the airline company said. The flight had originally taken off from Delhi at approximately 7.40 am but had to turn back at 8.20 am due to the unforeseen snag. Upon landing back at the Indira Gandhi International airport, the IndiGo crew addressed the passengers, assuring them that alternative arrangements were being made. Another aircraft was being arranged for the continuation of the journey to Ranchi, but it was anticipated that this would require some time.

“The aircraft returned to its origin due to a technical issue. Three minutes after its departure, the pilot reported one engine inoperative. The aircraft landed safely at 9.11 am. As per the pilot, no further assistance was required. All operations are normal here," an airport official said.

This incident marks the second time in recent days that an IndiGo flight has faced technical issues leading to a return to the airport. The occurrence of two technical glitches within a short span of time has raised concerns about the maintenance and safety standards of the fleet. While aviation experts and authorities will likely conduct thorough investigations into both incidents, it is essential for the airline to be transparent with passengers and the public about the findings and the measures being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
