New Delhi: Former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh recently said that India cannot conquer the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic without 'aggressive testing'.

Congress party, on Sunday, released a video of the Congress Consultative Group meeting, which was held under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh, via video conferencing. This Group consists of various senior leaders and former Union Ministers of the party, aiming to discuss about the different aspects of this pandemic in the meeting on every alternative day.

During the meeting, Dr Manmohan Singh said, "There are problems concerning the inadequacies of the testing facilities. Without aggressive facilities of testing, we are not going to conquer this menace."

In addition to this concern, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said, "We have the capacity to triple the amount of testing. If we want to reach the threshold level of 1% population, we have to conduct 10 million tests."

While raising the issue of migrant labourers, Congress leader and party's former President Rahul Gandhi said, "We should have a broad framework of protection for migrants. We must insist that they are protected but we should also acknowledge that state governments are actually responsible for driving this thing and different state governments might choose different methodologies to solve this problem."

However, over the statement of Rahul Gandhi, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram suggested that even though the state, from where these migrants originally came, should find ways to take them back, but the 'bulk' will have to remain where they are. Along with that, he asserted that to make these migrants stay, they should be given cash and credit in their hands immediately.

Agreeing to the suggestion, Rahul Gandhi further added, "Movement of the migrants should depend on the two states and the states should indulge in a conversation with each other."
