Harish Rawat resigns as Congress Assam in-charge

All India Congress Committee General Secretary Harish Rawat tendered his resignation from his post on Thursday, taking responsibility of party's defeat in 2019 elections.

New Delhi: Congress is yet to come out from its leadership crisis, as the party's General Secretary Harish Rawat on Thursday submitted his resignation as the Assam's in-charge.

Taking accountability over the party's poor show in Assam, Rawat submitted his resignation to party President Rahul Gandhi.

In his letter, Rawat said that he was not able to deliver as expected from Assam.

"I would like to concentrate for party work, and prepare it for the 2022 Assembly election in Uttarakhand," said Rawat.

This development has further aggravated the leadership crisis in Congress with Party President Rahul Gandhi is yet to reconsider his decision of resigning from the post.

However, the resignation of Gandhi scion has not yet been accepted by the Congress Working Committee (CEC).
