New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee unveiled the statue of Kasturba Gandhi at Gandhi Ashram in New Delhi on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of the Father of Nation 'Mahatma Gandhi'.
On this occasion, he addressed the people present in the program saying that "People belonging from other countries too respect Gandhiji as well as they adopted his ideas and even trying to follow his footsteps."
Mukherjee said that along with the freedom struggle, his life is also a lesson for every individual.
"The whole world is celebrating his 150th birthday and for me, it is a privilege that I have got the opportunity to unveil the statue of Kasturba Gandhi Ji as she also had a big role in the era of freedom struggle, she along with Gandhiji fought for freedom", Former President said.
In association with her husband and son, she was involved in the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India.
Also, she continued to take part in civil actions and protests across India that were organized by Gandhi. Moreover, she often took her husband's spot if he was in prison.
The majority of her time was dedicated to helping out and serving in ashrams. Here, Kasturba was referred to as "Ba" or Mother, because she served as mother of the ashrams in India, he stated.
He said that when Gandhiji was killed, the American writer said that although Gandhiji may have been born in India, he became the father of the whole world.
