Shah appeals to shun rumours

Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to the capital's residents not to believe in rumours and fall prey to evil designs of miscreants and groups interested in precipitating communal tension.

Shah's appeal and announcements came after a review meeting he chaired at his North Block office to take stock of prevailing law and order situation, said a Home Ministry statement.

"Situation is slowly returning to normal. Citizens are requested not to lay credence to any rumour," the Minister appealed.

Prohibitory orders to be relaxed for 10 hours tomorrow: MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs informed that 514 suspects have been arrested or detained for questioning so far and that further arrests would be made in course of investigation.

"No major incident has been reported in the last 36 hours in any affected Police Station of District North-East. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be relaxed for a total of 10 hours tomorrow in view of the improvement in the ground situation," it added.

Man who had opened fire not arrested yet

Though earlier reports suggested that the man in a red t-shirt who had opened fire at police during violence in North East Delhi on February 24, had been arrested by the Police, Delhi Police sources have now clarified to a news agency that the man has not been arrested yet, and the search is still on for him.

Riots couldn't be controlled despite strong govt at Centre: Raut

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that the issue of the violence in Delhi must be discussed in the next session of Parliament.

"Riots took place in the national capital for three days and could not be controlled despite the fact that there is a strong govt at Centre. It should be discussed in the next session of Parliament as to how and why it occurred," he said.

FIR registered against AAP councillor Tahir Hussain

An FIR was registered on Thursday against AAP councillor Tahir Hussain for allegedly being involved in the killing of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma, police said.

The complaint was given by Sharma's father, following which a case was registered under sections 365 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), they said.

215 victims treated at GTB Hospital since Feb 24

The Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi, which has been receiving the most number of victims, in a statement said that it has received and treated 215 victims since February 24.

The hospital informed that 51 patients are currently admitted and receiving treatment, and the condition of all patients expect one is stable.

Nine patients died at the hospital during treatment and 25 were brought dead since February 24, it added.

Paswan condemns violence, says it happened when a foreign guest was in India

BJP ally and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan said stringent action should be taken against the guilty irrespective of their caste and religion.

"I strongly condemn the violence seen in Delhi over the last few days. It happened when a foreign guest (US President Donald Trump) was in the country. An impartial probe should be conducted, and stringent action be taken against the guilty irrespective of their caste and religion," Paswan tweeted in Hindi.

A delegation of senior Congress leaders, led by party chief Sonia Gandhi, met President Ram Nath Kovind today to seek normalcy and peace in violence-hit Delhi.

SITs to probe violence

The Delhi Police has transferred northeast Delhi riots probe to the crime branch, and the cases will be probed by two Special Investigation Teams (SITs).

The teams will be headed Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) Joy Tirkey and Rajesh Deo.

The teams will have four Assistant Commissioner of Police-rank officers each and the probe will be supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police B K Singh.

The Delhi Police stated that the situation in North East Delhi is presently normal, claiming that no incident took place today.

"The situation is normal. No incident took place today. Adequate forces have been deployed," Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa told reporters.

Randhawa further informed that 48 FIRs have been registered so far, and that more FIRs are being registered as the police gets more information.

"We will address all the individual cases. Investigation is going on. We have multiple footage. As the investigation progresses in all the cases, we will share the details. We are investigating from all angles," he said.

Delhi BJP Leader Kapil Mishra, who has been accused of giving an inciting speech, today defended himself by claiming that he was being made the "villain".

Referring to AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, who has been accused of being involved in the riots, Mishra said, "No question is being asked to those on whose terrace petrol bombs were found. Kejriwal said the scheme has been extended for all riot victims

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those who have died in the Delhi violence.

He also announced that those injured can avail free treatment at private hospitals.

"Under Delhi government's 'Farishte' scheme of free-of-cost medical treatment at any private hospital, those affected in the violence can also get medical treatment," he said.

Kejriwal said there should be no politics over the issue

Responding to the allegations that AAP councillor Tahir Hussain was involved in the riots and in the killing of an Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that rioters, irrespective of the party they belong to, should not be spared.

"Any person who is found guilty should be given stringent punishment. If any Aam Aadmi Party person is found guilty, then that person should be given double the punishment. There should be no politics on the issue of national security," he said.

No FIR for hate speech: Delhi Police

Delhi Police have told the Delhi High Court that in a conscious decision, they've decided not to file an FIR for hate speech against anyone at this stage as it won't help in restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

"We have filed 48 FIRs in the North East Delhi violence case," they informed.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing Delhi Police said that the petitioner in his wisdom selected three speeches as hate speech but there are many such hate speeches.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal convened an emergency meeting at AAP's Delhi headquarters today.

The agenda of the meeting was to prepare and discuss the relief strategy for victims of violence in northeast Delhi.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation holds coordination meeting with Delhi police

East Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Police today held a coordination meeting in order to discuss further course of action in northeast delhi.

"We had a coordination meeting today. It's a coordinated team effort with Delhi Police," said Dr Dilraj Kaur, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation.

She further added that they will be deploying their resources to clean up the violence-hit areas.

"We will try our best to bring normalcy at the earliest," she added.

Northeast Delhi violence: Death toll reaches 34

Seven more fatalities have been recorded at three hospitals, taking the total death toll in the northeast Delhi violence over the amended citizenship law to 34 on Thursday, according to senior officials.

Till Wednesday night, the total count of casualties had stood at 27, 25 of those at GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden.

"Five more deaths recorded at GTB Hospital, and one more death at LNJP Hospital. One fatality was reported at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 34," a senior official of the Delhi Health Department said.

One person was declared brought dead by doctors, while another had died during treatment at the LNJP Hospital on Wednesday.

Over 50 patients have been provided treatment at the LNJP Hospital since the violence broke out on Sunday in various parts of northeast Delhi, officials at the hospital said.

More than 200 people have been injured in the violence that raged in the areas over the last few days.

A medical store owner Raisul Islam in Chand Bagh area has said that the situation in the region has gradually begun to improve.

"Situation is better now. I'm trying to provide medicines to the people who have urgent requirements. Members of both communities carried out a peace march in the area to help restore normalcy," he said.

Delhi violence: Death toll reaches 32

The death toll in the violence in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law reached 32 on Thursday, senior officials said.

It was at 27 till Wednesday night.

"Five more deaths recorded at GTB Hospital, so death toll at that hospital has gone up to 30, taking total toll to 32," a senior Delhi Health Department official said.

The Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital had reported two fatalities on Wednesday.

Engineer killed on his way back home from dairy

A 26-year-old engineer from Karawal Nagar area in Shahdra died in a violent episode in northeast-Delhi.

The deceased- Rahul Solanki was a civil engineer and worked in a private company.

He was returning from a dairy when a group of violaters surrounded him and beat him to death.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Solanki's father said: "The government is responsible for my son's death. Despite constant calls to the police, no step was taken for helping my son."

He further said that his son's dead body is yet to be returned to them, as its post-mortem is not yet done.

Amit Shah on two-day tour of Odisha from Friday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to Odisha from February 28 where he is scheduled to address a rally in Bhubaneswar and meet state leaders to discuss strategy to strengthen the BJP in the region.

According to information, the Home Minister will be addressing a rally on Friday at Baramunda Field in Bhubaneswar on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a law that has been causing protests across several parts of the country ever since its passage by Parliament in December last year.

The senior BJP leader is also scheduled to meet state party unit President Samir Mohanty along with Members of Parliament, MLAs and candidates who were fielded by the party in earlier polls in Odisha to discuss ways to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

On February 29, Shah is scheduled to offer prayers at the Jagannath Temple and Lingaraja Temple. He will return to the national capital the same day.

"Death toll has increased to 30 at the hospital," Sunil Kumar Gautam, Medical Superintendent at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, said.

19 calls received till 8 am today: Delhi Fire Department

Delhi Fire Department has received 19 calls from 12 am till 8 am today, informed director of the department Atul Garg.

Amid ongoing violence in northeast Delhi, various incidences of fire have been reported.

"We have received 19 calls from 12 am till 8 am today, from various areas of northeast Delhi," Fire Department director Atul Garg said.

He further informed that more than 100 firemen have been deployed, while four fire stations in these areas have been provided with extra fire tenders.

Garg further added: "Senior officials are inspecting the affected areas. We did not face any resistance this time while carrying out the operations in the violence affected areas."

Teenager attacked with drill machine during Delhi violence

19-year-old Vivek Chaudhary, who had come out of his house when rioters attacked him, was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital with a drill machine pushed into his head.

Doctors were horrified by the sight of Vivek's injury. He was immediately admitted to the emergency ward and the drill machine operated out of his head by Dr Pragyan.

Vivek's condition is said to be stable now, but he is still under trauma from the brutal attack.

25 victims of Delhi violence admitted to LNJP Hospital, 2 dead

Of the 25 victims of ongoing violence in Delhi that were brought to LNJP Hospital for treatment, two died while being treated.

Karwan-e-Mohabbat volunteer Mohammed Gufran informed: "25 violence victims were brought to the LNJP hospital, two of whom succumbed to their injuries."

Several others are in a critical condition now.

Most of the patients admitted to the hospital had injuries on their faces, some of them were also attacked with acid. They are all currently under treatment and observation.

Mahila Panchayat's office set ablaze in riot-hit Gokalpuri: DCW chief Maliwal

Delhi Commission For Women chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday said an office of the Mahila Panchayat of the panel was set ablaze in riot-hit northeast Delhi's Gokalpuri area.

Maliwal shared images of the burnt office on Twitter and said the rioters had not even spared the office of the Mahila Panchayat.

She had a meeting with senior officers on Wednesday and urged police to ensure peace in the area.

AAP's Sanjay Singh takes out peace march in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar

New Delhi: Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh took out a peace march in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency on Wednesday in a bid to ease tensions after three days of communal violence.

Chants of 'Hindu-Muslim, Sikh-Issai Sab Hain Bhai-Bhai', 'Bhaichara Zindabad' and 'Humari Ekta Zindabad' were heard during the march.

Singh said the march saw the participation of scores of people from all religions.

Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has asked all its elected representatives to participate actively in peace marches and meetings. Party volunteers have also been asked to talk to people in the violence-hit areas.

Twenty-four people were killed and over 200 injured in the communal clashes that broke out in northeast Delhi three days ago after violence between anti and pro Citizenship (Amendment) Act groups spiralled out of control.

Frenzied mobs torched houses, shops, vehicles, a petrol pump and pelted stones at local residents and police personnel.

Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh, Shiv Vihar are among the areas mainly affected by the riots.

Paswan condemns violence, says it happened when a foreign guest was in India

BJP ally and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan said stringent action should be taken against the guilty irrespective of their caste and religion.

"I strongly condemn the violence seen in Delhi over the last few days. It happened when a foreign guest (US President Donald Trump) was in the country. A delegation of senior Congress leaders, led by party chief Sonia Gandhi, met President Ram Nath Kovind today to seek normalcy and peace in violence-hit Delhi.

SITs to probe violence

The Delhi Police has transferred northeast Delhi riots probe to the crime branch, and the cases will be probed by two Special Investigation Teams (SITs).

The teams will be headed Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) Joy Tirkey and Rajesh Deo.

The teams will have four Assistant Commissioner of Police-rank officers each and the probe will be supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police B K Singh.

The Delhi Police stated that the situation in North East Delhi is presently normal, claiming that no incident took place today.

"The situation is normal. No incident took place today. Adequate forces have been deployed," Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa told reporters.

Randhawa further informed that 48 FIRs have been registered so far, and that more FIRs are being registered as the police gets more information.

"We will address all the individual cases. Investigation is going on. We have multiple footage. As the investigation progresses in all the cases, we will share the details. We are investigating from all angles," he said.

Kejriwal said the scheme has been extended for all riot victims

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those who have died in the Delhi violence.

He also announced that those injured can avail free treatment at private hospitals.

"Under Delhi government's 'Farishte' scheme of free-of-cost medical treatment at any private hospital, those affected in the violence can also get medical treatment," he said.

No FIR for hate speech: Delhi Police

Delhi Police have told the Delhi High Court that in a conscious decision, they've decided not to file an FIR for hate speech against anyone at this stage as it won't help in restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

"We have filed 48 FIRs in the North East Delhi violence case," they informed.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing Delhi Police said that the petitioner in his wisdom selected three speeches as hate speech but there are many such hate speeches.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation holds coordination meeting with Delhi police

East Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Police today held a coordination meeting in order to discuss further course of action in northeast delhi.

"We had a coordination meeting today. It's a coordinated team effort with Delhi Police," said Dr Dilraj Kaur, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation.

Northeast Delhi violence: Death toll reaches 34

Seven more fatalities have been recorded at three hospitals, taking the total death toll in the northeast Delhi violence over the amended citizenship law to 34 on Thursday, according to senior officials.

Till Wednesday night, the total count of casualties had stood at 27, 25 of those at GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden.

"Five more deaths recorded at GTB Hospital, and one more death at LNJP Hospital. One fatality was reported at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 34," a senior official of the Delhi Health Department said.

One person was declared brought dead by doctors, while another had died during treatment at the LNJP Hospital on Wednesday.

Over 50 patients have been provided treatment at the LNJP Hospital since the violence broke out on Sunday in various parts of northeast Delhi, officials at the hospital said.

More than 200 people have been injured in the violence that raged in the areas over the last few days.

A medical store owner Raisul Islam in Chand Bagh area has said that the situation in the region has gradually begun to improve.

Delhi violence: Death toll reaches 32

The death toll in the violence in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law reached 32 on Thursday, senior officials said.

It was at 27 till Wednesday night.

"Five more deaths recorded at GTB Hospital, so death toll at that hospital has gone up to 30, taking total toll to 32," a senior Delhi Health Department official said.

The Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital had reported two fatalities on Wednesday.

Engineer killed on his way back home from dairy

A 26-year-old engineer from Karawal Nagar area in Shahdra died in a violent episode in northeast-Delhi.

The deceased- Rahul Solanki was a civil engineer and worked in a private company.

He was returning from a dairy when a group of violaters surrounded him and beat him to death.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Solanki's father said: "The government is responsible for my son's death. Despite constant calls to the police, no step was taken for helping my son."

He further said that his son's dead body is yet to be returned to them, as its post-mortem is not yet done.

Amit Shah on two-day tour of Odisha from Friday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to Odisha from February 28 where he is scheduled to address a rally in Bhubaneswar and meet state leaders to discuss strategy to strengthen the BJP in the region.

According to information, the Home Minister will be addressing a rally on Friday at Baramunda Field in Bhubaneswar on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a law that has been causing protests across several parts of the country ever since its passage by Parliament in December last year.

The senior BJP leader is also scheduled to meet state party unit President Samir Mohanty along with Members of Parliament, MLAs and candidates who were fielded by the party in earlier polls in Odisha to discuss ways to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

On February 29, Shah is scheduled to offer prayers at the Jagannath Temple and Lingaraja Temple. He will return to the national capital the same day.

The death toll from violence in northeast Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act has risen to 30.

"Death toll has increased to 30 at the hospital," Sunil Kumar Gautam, Medical Superintendent at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, said.

19 calls received till 8 am today: Delhi Fire Department

Delhi Fire Department has received 19 calls from 12 am till 8 am today, informed director of the department Atul Garg.

Amid ongoing violence in northeast Delhi, various incidences of fire have been reported.

"We have received 19 calls from 12 am till 8 am today, from various areas of northeast Delhi," Fire Department director Atul Garg said.

He further informed that more than 100 firemen have been deployed, while four fire stations in these areas have been provided with extra fire tenders.

Garg further added: "Senior officials are inspecting the affected areas. We did not face any resistance this time while carrying out the operations in the violence affected areas."

Teenager attacked with drill machine during Delhi violence

19-year-old Vivek Chaudhary, who had come out of his house when rioters attacked him, was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital with a drill machine pushed into his head.

Doctors were horrified by the sight of Vivek's injury. He was immediately admitted to the emergency ward and the drill machine operated out of his head by Dr Pragyan.

Vivek's condition is said to be stable now, but he is still under trauma from the brutal attack.

25 victims of Delhi violence admitted to LNJP Hospital, 2 dead

Of the 25 victims of ongoing violence in Delhi that were brought to LNJP Hospital for treatment, two died while being treated.

Karwan-e-Mohabbat volunteer Mohammed Gufran informed: "25 violence victims were brought to the LNJP hospital, two of whom succumbed to their injuries."

Several others are in a critical condition now.

Most of the patients admitted to the hospital had injuries on their faces, some of them were also attacked with acid. They are all currently under treatment and observation.

Mahila Panchayat's office set ablaze in riot-hit Gokalpuri: DCW chief Maliwal

Delhi Commission For Women chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday said an office of the Mahila Panchayat of the panel was set ablaze in riot-hit northeast Delhi's Gokalpuri area.

Maliwal shared images of the burnt office on Twitter and said the rioters had not even spared the office of the Mahila Panchayat.

She had a meeting with senior officers on Wednesday and urged police to ensure peace in the area.

AAP's Sanjay Singh takes out peace march in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar

New Delhi: Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh took out a peace march in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency on Wednesday in a bid to ease tensions after three days of communal violence.

Chants of 'Hindu-Muslim, Sikh-Issai Sab Hain Bhai-Bhai', 'Bhaichara Zindabad' and 'Humari Ekta Zindabad' were heard during the march.

Singh said the march saw the participation of scores of people from all religions.

Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has asked all its elected representatives to participate actively in peace marches and meetings. Party volunteers have also been asked to talk to people in the violence-hit areas.

Twenty-four people were killed and over 200 injured in the communal clashes that broke out in northeast Delhi three days ago after violence between anti and pro Citizenship (Amendment) Act groups spiralled out of control.

Frenzied mobs torched houses, shops, vehicles, a petrol pump and pelted stones at local residents and police personnel.

Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh, Shiv Vihar are among the areas mainly affected by the riots.
