New Delhi: In an inspiring deed, Delhi Police women constables have started preparing face masks, which are in demand in view of the increasing number of coronavirus infected people in the city, at a Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) centre here after completing their duty.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, R P Meena said that it was an initiative of the women constables of the district, who after their duty hours would spend time making these masks.
"The masks would be given to the police officials and poor people, who cannot afford to buy the same from the market," the police official said.
He said the masks could be reused as they are washable and their manufacturing is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to the public to use home-made masks to defeat coronavirus.
The women constables, who know how to stitch, are working at the centre, which was lying closed because of the lockdown. They are also training other colleagues who do not know it.
Many senior police officials keep visiting the women constables and encourage them to keep up the good work.
