Delhi police arrest IRS officer on charges of harassing, stalking woman IAS officer

A case was filed at the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi against an IRS officer. The accused Sohail Malik was stalking and harassing the woman IAS officer for the past three years.

New Delhi: A case was lodged at the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi against an IRS officer. The accused Sohail Malik was stalking and harassing the woman IAS officer for the past three years. The victim whose husband is also an IAS officer came in contact with the accused when both had the posting at the same place during the outbreak of Covid-19.

The Delhi police arrested the accused on the charges of harassment and shadowing the female IAS officer. The woman IAS officer in her complaint to the police alleged that she was being harassed by the accused for almost three years. During the outbreak of Coronavirus, the female IAS officer and the accused's posting was at the same place. The accused was harassing the victim and also exerting pressure on her to meet the former over the phone. He used to make frequent calls to the victim. The victim had issued warnings to the accused on several occasions. Despite warnings, the accused did not mend his ways and kept on calling the woman IAS officer.

Fed up with this, the woman officer lodged a complaint against the accused at the Parliament Street police station for harassing, stalking and threatening her over the phone. Following the investigation, the police registered a case under the relevant Sections of the IPC and also arrested the accused. The accused has been identified as Sohail Malik. The female officer has been posted as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry. The husband of the victim is also an IAS officer. In her complaint, the victim alleged she had lost her mental equilibrium and was unable to focus on her work due to the harassment and stalking of the accused.
