Delhi: Man arrested for spreading rumours, ends life

A man who was arrested on the grounds of spreading rumours on March 2, committed suicide by jumping off from the third floor of his house on Friday. DCP Sanjay Bhatia has suspended four police inspectors and has formed a committee to look into the matter.

New Delhi: A man who was arrested for spreading rumours during Delhi violence in Ranjeet Nagar area committed suicide on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Anshuman (23) was arrested on the grounds of spreading rumours on March 2.

The police had taken him to his house for the purpose of investigation where he broke free and rushed to the third floor of the building.

When he saw police officials following him he panicked and jumped off the building. The accused was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

In view of the negligence of the police officials present, DCP Sanjay Bhatia suspended four police inspectors and has formed a committee to look into the matter.

More than 200 people were injured in northeast Delhi’s communal violence last month. The police also confirmed that the death toll stood at 44.
