With thousands of migrant workers seeking to return to their native places in the wake of lockdown enforced to check the spread of Coronavirus, Union Home Secretary  Ajay Bhalla has again written to States and Union Territories to immediately set up relief camps for these workers and pilgrims.

A Home Ministry release on Saturday said that states have been advised to give wide publicity and create awareness using public address systems and by utilising the services of volunteers and NGOs to provide information on the location of the relief camps and the facilities available.

In a bid to spread awareness about the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, a local artist in collaboration with a police official here has made a unique 'Corona' helmet to dissuade commuters from coming out on the streets during the nationwide lockdown.

"We take all the steps but still people come out on the streets. Therefore, this corona helmet is one of the steps we are taking to ensure that people are aware of the seriousness of the police. The helmet is an attempt to do something different when I wear this the thought of coronavirus comes into the minds of the commuters. Especially, the children react strongly after seeing this and want to be taken home," said police inspector Rajesh Babu, who wears the helmet while speaking to commuters on the street.

Singh (27) hails from Agra and recently took a contract job in Himachal Pradesh Baddi which is near Rupnagar. The restrictions on the movement and assembly of people to curb the spread of the coronavirus continued in Kashmir for the tenth consecutive on Saturday, even as police booked several people for defying the lockdown by organising congregational prayers on Friday, officials said.

While most of the mosques and shrines in the valley were shut, a few mosques held the Friday prayers, they added.

The police booked several people for defying the prohibitory orders and organising the Friday prayers, the officials said.

Policeman on curfew duty dies of heart attack in Punjab

A 48-year-old policeman, who was on duty to implement the curfew to prevent spread of coronavirus, died of a heart attack in Patiala district on Saturday, official said.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mian Singh was on a patrol duty at Khari Fatan village in Samana town when he had the heart attack, an official said. 

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

NSUI writes to MHRD seeking fee waiver for students stuck in cities amid lockdown

The National Students' Union of India on Friday wrote to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), seeking waiver of fee of university students who are stuck in various cities amid the 21-day nationwide lockdown.

Most of the students in India live outside their hometowns, those who are stuck in big cities like Delhi already have financial issues because of the shutdown. Their fee should have waived off because the classes also remained suspended most of the time this semester," the NSUI said in its letter.

The Karnataka government has decided to impose complete lockdown in Mangaluru district on Saturday as the total number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in neighbouring Kasargod.

This decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Hon district minister in the presence of MLA/ MLCs and MP.

COVID-19 Lockdown: MHA asks states to set up relief camps for migrant workers

New Delhi: The Supreme Court's Offices of Registry will remain closed till April 15 as a preventive measure in view of novel coronavirus outbreak.

However, there are some exemptions as protocol, caretaking section, computer and judicial sections dealing with filing and listing of matters and court masters will continue to function as usual.

"Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India has directed that as a preventive measure in view of COVID-19 pandemic, the Offices of the Registry (except Protocol, Caretaking Section, Computer and Judicial Sections dealing with filing and listing of matters and Court Masters) shall continue to remain closed till 15th April, 2020 on the same terms and conditions as notified earlier vide Order dated 22' March, 2020," an order from the Supreme Court dated March 27 said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had reported a total of 724 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India.

12 UP labourers stranded in Punjab amid lockdown seek help to reach home

"Papa, please come home soon", two-year-old daughter of tile mason Tinku Singh, who is stuck in Punjab's Rupnagar district amid the country-wide lockdown, tells him on every call.

Singh (27) hails from Agra and recently took a contract job in Himachal Pradesh Baddi which is near Rupnagar. Restrictions continue in Kashmir, police book several people for organising Friday prayers

The restrictions on the movement and assembly of people to curb the spread of the coronavirus continued in Kashmir for the tenth consecutive on Saturday, even as police booked several people for defying the lockdown by organising congregational prayers on Friday, officials said.

While most of the mosques and shrines in the valley were shut, a few mosques held the Friday prayers, they added.

The police booked several people for defying the prohibitory orders and organising the Friday prayers, the officials said.

Policeman on curfew duty dies of heart attack in Punjab

A 48-year-old policeman, who was on duty to implement the curfew to prevent spread of coronavirus, died of a heart attack in Patiala district on Saturday, official said.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mian Singh was on a patrol duty at Khari Fatan village in Samana town when he had the heart attack, an official said. 

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

NSUI writes to MHRD seeking fee waiver for students stuck in cities amid lockdown

The National Students' Union of India on Friday wrote to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), seeking waiver of fee of university students who are stuck in various cities amid the 21-day nationwide lockdown.

Most of the students in India live outside their hometowns, those who are stuck in big cities like Delhi already have financial issues because of the shutdown. Their fee should have waived off because the classes also remained suspended most of the time this semester," the NSUI said in its letter.

The Karnataka government has decided to impose complete lockdown in Mangaluru district on Saturday as the total number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in neighbouring Kasargod.

This decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Hon district minister in the presence of MLA/ MLCs and MP.

COVID-19 Lockdown: MHA asks states to set up relief camps for migrant workers

New Delhi: The Supreme Court's Offices of Registry will remain closed till April 15 as a preventive measure in view of novel coronavirus outbreak.

However, there are some exemptions as protocol, caretaking section, computer and judicial sections dealing with filing and listing of matters and court masters will continue to function as usual.

"Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India has directed that as a preventive measure in view of COVID-19 pandemic, the Offices of the Registry (except Protocol, Caretaking Section, Computer and Judicial Sections dealing with filing and listing of matters and Court Masters) shall continue to remain closed till 15th April, 2020 on the same terms and conditions as notified earlier vide Order dated 22' March, 2020," an order from the Supreme Court dated March 27 said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had reported a total of 724 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India.
