New Delhi: The high-profile Tihar Jail of Delhi is facing a 5 times increase in Corona Positive cases among its inmates and staff. Till 12 April, 59 cases of Corona positives have emerged, a sharp rise within a week. As per the figures released by Tihar Jail, the cases were in single digit by the end of March. But the cases are again on the rise.

as per the figures released by Tihar officials, till the 2nd of April, the jail had a total case of 130 confirmed Corona positives. On the 5th of April, the total active cases inside Tihar was just 11. However, on 12th April, it rose to 59 active cases, out of which six jail staff and one doctor tested positive.

The jail administration is taking steps to prevent and manage the rising Covid-19 cases. Tihar currently has twice the number of inmates than its allotted capacity and this overcapacity is causing problems for the administration. The jail is trying to maintain social distancing among the inmates and has also suspended the intercation between the inmates and their families.
