A Congress worker named Hamid Khan has threatened to hang himself outside the Congress party office to stop Rahul Gandhi from quitting as the party president. Meanwhile, Delhi Police rushed to the spot and rescued the man.

New Delhi: A Congress party activist on Tuesday, tried to hang himself from a tree outside the party office to stop Rahul Gandhi from quitting as party President, which led chaos at the Congress headquarters. However, he was brought down in time by the Delhi Police.

Police said that Hamid Khan (the activist) had arrived on Tuesday at the Congress headquarters to participate in an indefinite strike which was organised to plead Rahul Gandhi to stay on as the party chief.

At some point, Khan went outside and climbed up a tree.

Delhi Police personnel who were deployed there noticed Khan who tried to hang himself from one of the branches of the tree.

They rushed to the spot and forcibly brought him down.

Meanwhile, he was taken to the Tughlaq Road police station.`
