New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed his Twitter profile to 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi' and senior BJP leaders followed suit to amplify its campaign, while Congress leaders slammed this move of BJP leaders
Addressing a public rally during her Ganga Yatra in Prayagraj, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi slammed BJP saying only the rich have ‘chowkidar’.
In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign was based on his tea-selling stint. The BJP turned the campaign to its advantage and formed a government with a giant mandate. Five years later, BJP is banking on the chowkidar campaign.
Talking to Etv Bharat, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "The Congress refers to Prime Minister with phrases like 'chaiwala' 'pakodewala' and now 'chowkidar'. It shows their mentality and thought process.”
However, the minister said the BJP will not retaliate and let the people give the response in the ensuing parliamentary polls.
Twitter statistics show that both the hashtags #MainBhiChowkidar and #ChowkidarPhirSe ruled Twitter on Saturday (March 16) and Sunday (March 17).
The BJP has started it's Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign with PM Modi and other party leaders. As part of the campaign, the PM will also interact with people from across the country on March 31.
