New Delhi: Amid rising pro-Khalistani activities in Punjab, Intelligence Bureau (IB) report has revealed that Canada-based gangster cum terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa has become a major recruiter. Landa was found mobilising youths for carrying out anti-India activities.
"The terror outfit was also mobilizing over-ground workers for supplying the consignment of arms and ammunition to the new recruits. Besides, they were providing other logistical support to them," the IB report submitted to the Home Ministry stated.
The newly inducted youths in the organisation were provided training to issue extortion threats to businessmen. "The henchmen recruited by Landa used to send extortion money through Hawala channels to Canada. From Canada the money was routed to Pakistan for the supply of arms and drugs to Punjab. The firearms and drugs are dropped in Punjab with the help of drones," the report said.
It is worth mentioning that Landa is a resident of Hairke Pattan village in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. Before committing several crimes in the state, he fled to Canada in 2017.
The intelligence report further stated that the sizable chunk of Sikh expat communities operating out of Toronto and Vancouver in Canada were mostly of Punjabi origin. The rise of the US terror module led by Sikh For Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun hinted that K2 desk was working overtime to create serious law and order problems in India.
However, the module run by gangster-cum-terrorist Landa received a jolt when the Delhi police special cell nabbed four sharpshooters on September-October 2022. Two of the arrested accused Harmender Singh and Sukhdev were nabbed from Monga district in Punjab and a huge cache of pistols and assault rifles were recovered from them.
During the course of the interrogation, Harmender and Sukhdev revealed that they coordinated several drone droppings of arms and ammunition. Significantly, Landa arranged the safe house, arms and ammunition for the May 9, 2022 RPG attack on the intelligence wing of Punjab police headquarters in Mohali.
