Delhi CM announces ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to kin of fireman killed in Peeragarhi fire 

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore to the family of firefighter Amit Kumar Balyan who died in Peeragarhi fire incident on Thursday.

"Amit Baliyan laid down his life while serving the people of Delhi. Nothing can bring back a loved one lost, but Delhi govt will provide his family with ₹1 crore as financial assistance. It's the least we can do as a society..." Kejriwal said in a tweet.

Balyan died after he was trapped in the debris of a portion of a factory building which collapsed in the fire.

Delhi LG condoles firefighter's death in Peeraparghi blaze

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Thursday condoled the death of firefighter Amit Balyan and said that all possible assistance will be extended to his family, as well as to the other firefighters injured in the Peeragarhi factory fire.

"Deeply anguished over the news of the death of fire operator Amit Balyan. Amit along with his team members fought bravely to save the lives of many people. I salute his bravery. My sincere condolences to his family members. All possible assistance to be extended to the injured & bereaved family," Baijal tweeted.

Balyan succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital here today. He had been trapped and later rescued from a major fire in a factory in Peeragarhi area.

As many as 14 people, including 13 fire brigade personnel, were injured in the blaze.

Peeragarhi fire case transferred to Crime Branch: Police

New Delhi: The Peeragarhi fire case in Delhi in which a firefighter was killed and 14 others were injured on Thursday has been transferred to the Crime Branch, police said.

A battery factory collapsed in northwest Delhi following an explosion due to a fire that broke out early in the morning, officials said.

"The Peeragarhi fire case has been transferred to the Crime Branch," an official said.

Delhi factory fire: Firefighter succumbs to injuries

A firefighter, who was rescued after a portion of a battery factory collapsed in northwest Delhi's Peera Garhi following an explosion due to a fire on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.

"It is with deep sadness I inform you that one of our firemen was martyred while saving people from fire. Our firemen save other people's lives by putting their lives under extremely risk in difficult circumstances. May his soul rest in peace," Kejriwal tweeted.

Eighteen people, including fire brigade personnel, were injured when a battery factory collapsed in northwest Delhi's Peera Garhi following an explosion due to a fire that broke out early on Thursday morning, officials said.

CM says he is closely monitoring situation

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said he is closely monitoring the situation after a building collapsed following a blast in a factory that caught fire in Delhi's Peeragarhi.

"V sad to hear this. Am closely monitoring the situation. Fire personnel trying their best. Praying for the safety of those trapped (sic)," Kejriwal tweeted

Massive fire breaks out at Delhi factory

New Delhi: A building collapsed after a blast in a factory that caught fire in Delhi's Peera Garhi on Thursday morning, an official said.

The fire department said they received a call around 4:23 am about a fire in the factory at Udoh Nagar area after which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, the official said.

Later on, due to a blast, the building collapsed and people are trapped inside, including fire personnel, a senior fire official said.

Twelve people have been rescued from a battery manufacturing unit in outer Delhi's Mundka industrial area after the structure of the unit collapsed following a major fire and a blast in the unit, the Delhi Fire Services said on Thursday.

A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with Delhi Fire Services continue their efforts to rescue people trapped inside, while the rescued injured have been taken to a nearby private hospital in Paschim Vihar.

According to officials, twelve people including five fire fighters have been rescued from the spot.

The DFS chief Atul Garg said, "A call for fire in a factory was received at 4.23 a.m. on Thursday, accordingly, 7 fire tenders were sent to the spot. However the fire was followed by a sudden blast, due to which the building collapsed."

Garg added that when the building collapsed there were people inside it, along with the fire fighters who are rescuing them.

However, the number of people trapped inside the structure is not known yet.

In total 35 fire tenders are on the spot as the rescue operation continues.

The factory is being run by the Okaya company, which manufactures batteries.

Hospitals around the area have been alerted.
