New Delhi: The Supreme Court has approved the proposal of the Central Government to rebuild Sant Ravidas Temple in south Delhi's Tughlakabad which was demolished. 400 yards of land will be given by the government for the construction of the temple.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP vice president and former national president of BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha Dushyant Kumar said, "I thank Supreme Court, all the saints, and followers of Ravidas. I would also thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, and BJP Executive Chairman JP Nadda for putting people's feelings before the court."
The Court has ordered that no business activity over there will be accepted and also directed the central government to form a committee within 6 weeks which will oversee the construction.
On August 9, the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of Ravidas temple as it was built on encroached forest land of Tughlakabad, and on August 10, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) demolished the temple which led to widespread protests across the country by the supporters of the temple.
The directions came on the petition filed by former Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar and former minister Pradeep Jain. They had sought restoration of idols and pond at the site.
Delhi Congress leader and former MLA Rajesh Lilothia had also filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court seeking action against DDA for demolishing Ravidas temple.
The Intervention Application (IA) filed by Lilothia also sought a direction for permission to pray at the holy site until Guru Ravidas Temple is reconstructed and also restoration of the idols at the holy site.
