Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) :"Go my love, now I will never come back, just be happy" - were the parting lines of 22 year old Pankaj Toppo who wrote it on the wall before choosing to hang himself in the locked cabin of his friend's rented house at Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh on Thursday night. Though police are suspecting it be a case of jilted love affair but they are yet to zero in on the ‘Dark Lady’ supposedly responsible for the death.

Pankaj Toppo, a resident of Bhagwatpur in Jashpur district, had been working as a labourer in Ambikapur for a few days before his untimely death. Toppo had been staying in a rented house in Subhash Nagar with a friend, who had gone to his village for a wedding a few days prior to the incident. Upon returning on Friday morning the friend found the door locked from inside.

As Toppo was neither answering his calls nor responding from inside, his friend peered inside the house through the roof, only to discover his friend's lifeless body hanging from a noose. In a state of shock, he immediately alerted the authorities, who arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation. The police conducted a ‘eyewitness testimony’ of the body before transferring it to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

While authorities are still trying to piece together the details of what happened, the police suspect that the cause of Toppo's suicide was related to his romantic relationship. It is unclear what led Toppo to take his own life, but the incident has once again highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and support in society.

Though Gandhinagar police is trying find out the missing links in the story but according to them prime facie investigation shows that it was case of suicide. “The suicide might result from his mental depression after his break-up with his girlfriend but presently we cannot say anything. We have informed the family members and after they come we will be able to get to know about his personal life,” an investigating officer said.

The news of Toppo's suicide has been met with shock and sadness by those who knew him, and many are calling for greater attention to be paid to the issue of mental health in the region. “I couldn’t believe that he can do this. He was a quiet and beautiful person. When I saw his body hanging from the ceiling, I was shocked,” Toppo’s friend said.
