Chhattisgarh: Senior IPS officer booked for amassing disproportionate wealth

As many as 10 locations linked to Chhattisgarh's senior IPS officer GP Singh were raided by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. An FIR has also been registered against him for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets in Raipur, Bhilai, Rajnandgaon and also in Odisha.

Raipur: After the Chhattisgarh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team conducted extensive raids at the residence of a senior IPS officer GP Singh, an FIR was registered against him on the basis of the 'facts' revealed in the preliminary investigation. He has been charged on the basis of acquiring disproportionate assets in Raipur, Bhilai, Rajnandgaon and also in Odisha.

During the preliminary investigation, it has also been revealed that Singh has acquired illegal properties worth many crores of rupees at different places. He has also been accused of indulging in illegal transactions and money laundering by investing in shell companies. Separate teams of the ACB raided at least 10 locations, including Singh's official residence in the state capital Raipur, a senior ACB official said.

The action was taken following complaints against Singh, currently posted as director of the State Police Academy at Chandkhuri (Raipur), the official said. Singh, a 1994-batch IPS officer, was earlier posted as additional director general of the ACB and the Economic Offences Wing in Chhattisgarh before being transferred to the State Police Academy in June last year. He had earlier also served as the inspector general of police at various places in the state, including the Raipur range.
