Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh): Bilaspur Unit of the ruling Congress party in Chhattisgarh on Thursday passed the proposal to expel MLA Shailesh Pandey from the party for his 'anti-party activities', which was confirmed by Bilaspur party president Pramod Nayak.
The proposal has been sent to Chhattisgarh Congress chief Mohan Markam along with the national president Venugopal and state in-charge PL Punia, seeking expulsion of Pandey, who represents the Bilaspur assembly segment, from the party for six years.
The demand for the expulsion comes after Pandey along with his supporters on Wednesday had reached Kotwali police station to oppose an FIR registered against party leader Pankaj Singh in Bilaspur for allegedly assaulting an employee of a government hospital. The legislator alleged that Singh was being implicated for his closeness to Singh Deo.
Party officials allege that Pandey indulged in 'anti-party activities' after he and his supporters created ruckus at Kotwali police station on Wednesday. Pandey is considered to be a staunch supporter of Health Minister T S Singh Deo, chief minister Bhupesh Baghel's rival in state Congress.
Unit president Nayak claimed that Pandey's actions amounted to a breach of party discipline.
The developments following an FIR against Singh could further intensify the ongoing tussle between the camps of Singh Deo and Chief Minister Baghel.
