Gopalganj: Nearly 150 labourers from Bihar, Jharkhand and UP have been stranded in West Africa. They have uploaded a video on social media urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring them back home.
The workers said that they were had gone to Nigeria for work but were not getting their salary since the last nine months. They complained that they were in dire financial stress and were facing a lot of trouble. Also, they alleged that their employer had seized their passport and visa and was not allowing them to return home.
In the video, some people are seen sitting on the ground with folded hands, pleading to return to their homeland. "We were brought to Nigeria to work in a refinery. We haven't been paid for nine months. Our families back home are upset. Our children' names have been struck off from the school. Dear Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of External Affairs, we request you to evacuate us from here," the aggrieved laborers said in the video.
Among those stranded, includes 11 people from Gopalganj in Bihar. The family members of these people met Gopalganj district magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary and MP Dr. Alok Kumar Suman. They submitted an application seeking help from the authorities. People stranded include Bhesh Narayan Singh, Santosh Kumar, Ram Vilas Sah, Idrish Ansari, Deepak Rai, Upendra Prasad, Kanhaiya Sharma, Gupta Kalilal, Tarakeshwar Rai, Chhote Lal Chowdhary and Majeed Ali of Jagiri Tola of Sadar block.

"Yesterday, we received information about the 11 people from Gopalganj district who have been stranded in Nigeria. I have contacted the general branch and home department and am sure they will be brought back soon," Naval Kishore Chowdhary, DM, Gopalganj said. MP Alok Kumar Suman said he has written a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs and submitted a list of these 11 people.
Among those stranded include people from Begusarai, Madhubani and Motihari in Bihar, Palamu and Garhwa in Jharkhand and Deoria, Kushinagar, Siddharthnagar, Pratapgarh, Ballia, Basti and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh.
