New Delhi: Making a fresh pitch for special category status for Bihar, JD(U)'s MP-elect from Madhepura, Dinesh Chandra Yadav on Monday said that his party was sure that Prime Minister Modi would agree to the proposal.

Yadav expressed confidence that PM Modi would approve of their demand

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Yadav said, "We are always open to solutions from anywhere to solve our issues. Our demand for special status is long-drawn. Even the population of Bihar would want us to get the status, so that we can kick-start a lot of developmental projects in the state."

"We will continue with our demand. We have not lost hope. The last time it could not be done, but I am sure Prime Minister Modi would approve of our demand this time around," he added.

On being asked whether he aspired for a position in the Union cabinet, Yadav asserted that all such decisions would only be taken by Nitish Kumar. "Be it at the state or national level, the decision solely rests with the party president on who will get what role," he said.

Ahead of the NDA dinner meeting hosted by BJP President Amit Shah in the national capital right before the results were announced, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had said that the state should be granted special category status.

"We are still in favour of the special category status to Bihar. This issue is very important for us. We will continue to raise it," the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief told the media.

Interestingly, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister -elect Jaganmohan Reddy has also been meeting top NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah. Reddy has repeatedly been pressing for special category status for Andhra Pradesh, something which his predecessor Chandrababu Naidu failed to achieve, prompting TDP's split with the NDA.
