Transgender Monica Das to be made presiding officer in Bihar polls

Transgender Monica Das, from Patna, will be appointed as the presiding officer in the Bihar assembly elections. The Transgender community has been rejoicing since the announcement came from the Election Commission.

Patna: Delhi's transgender Monica Das will discharge duty as the presiding officer at the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

For the first time in the country, a transgender is being appointed as a presiding officer for polling work. Monika is from Patna and will take the position of Presiding Officer of a booth.

Officer of Canara Bank

Monika Das is an officer of Canara Bank and has become the country's first transgender banker. As the Presiding Officer, Monica will oversee voting to monitoring work. Training will be imparted as a Presiding Officer on October 8.

Before Das, transgender Riya Sircar, a school teacher has been made a polling officer in the West Bengal assembly elections.

Voting to be held on October 28

The Election Commission has announced the dates of voting. The first phase is to be held on October 28. The second phase will be on 3 November and the last and third phase will be voted on 7 November.

On 10 November, votes will be counted.
