Muzzafarpur: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries will not be able to enjoy the aroma and taste of 'shahi litchis' grown in Bihar this year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
As the state administration is busy working on the forefront to control the spread of coronavirus disease, it was not able to continue the tradition.
District Magistrate Dr. Chandrasekhar Singh said, “There has been a tradition of sending parcels of this variety of litchi to high-ranking dignitaries of the country every year, but we are unable to follow it this time due to coronavirus.”
However, DM Singh said that the final decision in this regard will be taken by the state government.
The district administration constitutes a committee to decide the best variety of litchi for the parcel.
As per tradition, the choicest of this variety of litchi, are neatly packed and sent to Bihar Bhavan in Delhi from where they are dispatched to the residences of the President, Prime Minister and other VVIPs.
