Patna: Bihar Police has issued a high alert in the state amid speculations that terrorists may target VVIP leaders during the campaign for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2020.
Police teams will keep a strict vigil on the movement of Naxalites and criminals with the state going to polls from October 28.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several other top leaders of the country are scheduled to held rallies in the state.
On October 23, PM Modi is slated to address three election meetings and will be in the state for nearly 8 hours.
The police fear that terrorists may try and carry out attacks on top political leaders during their campaign rallies, hence issued a high alert.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Jitendra Kumar, Additional Director-General of Police Headquarters, said that alert has been issued as so many top leaders will be campaigning and addressing rallies in the state.
"It's a routine thing. As it's election time, we have to be alert to avert any kind of untoward activities. So, we have issued an order in this regard and sent it to all range IG, DIG and district SPs," he added.
Bihar with 243 Assembly seats will go to polls in three phases: October 28, November 3 and November 7. The results are scheduled to be declared on November 10.
