Gaya: The Nikko organisation of Japan has started an education and learning drive in the Bataspur village of Gaya district. Women above 50 years of age are a part of this and are engaged in learning basic Mathematics, English and Hindi.
All the women belong to the farming background.
The stated objectives of the project are:-
- Literate women can be of great help for this project
- Women are now capable of signing instead of putting thumbprints
- English, Maths and Hindi are being taught to the women
- Most of them have a farming background
- This will lead to self - reliance and independent life for the women
This initiative was started 2 weeks ago and 35 ladies aged above 50 are learning here. The objective of this gumption is to educate the ladies about Organic farming and to promote its market.
The women earlier hesitated to learn in this age, now they are capable of writing their names and signatures.
The Nikko Organisation was sent to Bihar for a project related to organic farming, the team suggested the Japanese government that this project can be successful by educating the women in the area, asserted Manoranjan Kumar, Director of Bodh Gaya Sanstha.
This project is planned for three years and is also supported by the Japanese Government.
