Money from Assam's illegal coal mining being diverted to militant outfits

Asking for an inter-ministerial fact-finding committee to visit Assam, Congress lawmaker and Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi has claimed that a huge chunk of money coming from illegal coal mining in Assam is going to militant groups. Raising the issue in the zero hour, Bordoloi said that police, as well as top district administration officials, are working hand in glove with the coal mafia.

New Delhi: Claiming that a huge chunk of money coming from illegal coal mining in Assam is going to militant groups, a Congress lawmaker on Tuesday demanded an inter-ministerial fact-finding committee to visit Assam.

Raising the issue in the zero hour, Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi said that police, as well as top district administration officials, are working hand in gloves with the coal mafia. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Pradyut Bordoloi said, "Coal mining is going on in the rain forest and wildlife sanctuary in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district. A coal mafia has taken over SP, DC and forest officials...I urge upon the government to set up an interministerial fact-finding team to probe the matter," said Bordoloi.

He said that scores of daily wage labourers are dying there.

"The local police from Lido and Margharita have been keeping a blind eye," claimed Bordoloi.

He said that a huge chunk of money coming from illegal coal mining is going to the militant outfits including NSCN-IM and NSCN-K.

The illegal coal mining matter was earlier reported by ETV Bharat.

Interestingly, even after the news was reported no government officials gave any clarification.
