Bodo accord has heralded new dawn of peace in Assam: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra  Modi said on Friday that it was because of people's support that the Bodo peace accord was signed, heralding a new dawn of peace in Assam.

Modi said now the time was to work together for peace and development of the North-East.

"We will not allow violence to return," he asserted. The prime minister also sought to assuage the concerns of people of the region over implementation of the new citizenship law.

"Canard is being spread that lakhs of people settlers will come from outside after the enactment of CAA. Nothing of that sort will happen," he said.

"The Bodo accord is a victory for all communities and sections of society. There are no losers," he said.

PM Modi slams Rahul over 'danda' remark

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's "danda" remark and said that some leaders talk about beating him with sticks but he is protected by the blessings of "all mothers of India".

"At times some leaders talk about beating me with sticks, but I'm saved by the blessings of all mothers of India. I pay my respects and thank all of you. I am here to instill a new belief in all Assamese people," he said while addressing a public meeting in Kokrajhar.

"I am here to assure all in Assam, that anti-Assam&anti-national mentality will not be tolerated &forgiven by country.

Some powers are spreading rumours in Northeast that people from outside will come&settle here due to CAA. I want to assure that no such thing will happen", he stated in a rally.

Govt now trying to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord says PM Modi

"The Govt is now trying to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. I want to assure the people of Assam that after the Committee submits its report, the Central Govt will act on it swiftly. We're going to solve the problem that had persisted for years", PM Modi said

The Assam Govt has taken several big decisions regarding the Bodo language and tradition and has started some schemes as well. Bodo Territorial Council, Assam Govt and the Central Govt is now working together and will give 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas, Sabka Vishwas' will be emboldened."

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived in Guwahati ahead of his visit to Kokrajhar where he will address the public at an event, to celebrate the signing of the Bodo Agreement.

 Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi among others.

 Large numbers of locals have gathered at the rally ground, in Bodo-dominated Kokrajhar town of Assam.

The signing of the Bodo agreement led to the surrender of over 1,500 militants of the major insurgent group NDFB. The Bodo groups have been demanding a separate state of Bodoland for the last 50 years. The movement has resulted in extensive violence and loss of hundreds of lives over the years
