Guwahati: Incessant rains for the past four days havecreated ahavoc in Assam, affecting around 26,45,533 people and flash floods killing at least 9 people.
The State authorities have warned that the situation could worsen in the coming days.
As per the present report, a total of 3181 villages of 103 revenue circles in 28 districts have been affected by the flood.
Parts of the Brahmaputra river are flowing above the danger mark due to the heavy rainfall in the region, swamping more than 1,800 villages in the state.
Kaziranga National Park, the famed habitat of the Great Indian Rhino and a World Heritage site, has been affected too forcing the authorities to set up road barricades on the National Highway passing through it to limit the speed of vehicles, said Kaziranga Divisional Forest Officer Ruhini Saikia.
People have been struggling in moving from one place to another and they are also unable to visit markets to buy household products and other materials. Over 100 houses have been almost submerged and cattle are unable to come out from their shelters.
Troops of Indian Army along with SDRF and Civil Administration are conducting rescue operations in the area and 150 villagers who were stranded in Balipur Char of Baksa district in the state have been evacuated.
