Guwahati: Amid increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases, first wave of flood hit at least four districts of Assam on Friday affecting many villages across the state.

While incessant rainfall particularly in upper reaches swelled many rivers, it also triggered flash floods in some districts. According to reports, over the last 24 hours Jia Bharali river in Sintpur district is flowing "above danger level."

However, in Assam's Dhubri district, flash floods inundated a quarantine centre triggering panic among over 100 residents of the Centre.

Moreover, rising water from Borpani river in Nagaon district has entered through a breach in Madhabpara to Jurirpar road-cum-embankment caused last year and has inundated crop area of 597 hectare in 11 villages. In Lakhimpur district, flood water has also submerged many paddy fields.

Increasing water level of Puthimari river has also led to flooding in some areas of western Goreswar in Baksa district in the state, rendering many people to vacate their submerged homes and taking shelter in higher grounds.

However, Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its flood bulletin on Friday said that only two villages under Kalgachia revenue circle have been flooded affecting over 600 people.
