Guwahati: The Covid 19 spread is taking a serious turn in Assam with the concerned authorities recording huge spike in the positive cases across the state.
Despite a partial curfew imposed across the state, it has failed to reduce the fresh cases of infection. According to the government statistics, the state has recorded 51627 fresh cases of infection in the last ten days which indicates that average 5163 persons are being infected every day in Assam.
The statistics also shows that 76 people have died due to COVID19 in Assam in last 24 hours.
The health officials further revealed that Assam's capital town Guwahati has been identified as the most infected place. The capital city has also witnessed highest death toll due to COVID19 compared to other districts of the state. While 1107 people have been infected by COVID19 in Guwahati in last 24 hours, 20 of them have died in Guwahati alone.
The hospitals in the city have also witnessed shortage of beds in the government as well as private run hospitals to accommodate the COVID 19 patients.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 33,05,054 persons have taken the vaccine in Assam so far out of which 25,77,764 have taken the first dose while the rest 7,27, 290 people have taken both the first and second dose of the vaccine--a meager number compared to the state's population which is 3.33 crore.
While there are 41,978 active COVID 19 positive cases in Assam the COVID19 related death toll have rose to 2060 so far.
