Amaravati: While the nation grapples with the second wave of Covid, medical oxygen has been widely sought. Lending a helping hand amid the chaos, Indian Railways has ferried over 2,000 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to Andhra Pradesh within 16 days, according to sources.

Guntur, Krishnapatnam, Simhachalam and Tadlpatri areas in the state have received a cumulative total of 2,215.6 MT of LMO. While a total of 720.9 MT of LMO has been delivered to Guntur, Krishnapatnam Port, Simhachalam and Tadipatri have received 756.7 MT,360 MT and 368 MT of LMO respectively.
Trains carrying oxygen have been plying from both eastern and western parts of the nation. Till now, 130 LMO tankers of medical oxygen have been dispatched to the state. While 15 Oxygen Express trains have come from Odisha, another 9 trains have come from Jharkhand followed by 7 trains from Gujarat and 2 trains from West Bengal.

According to Railway sources, trains have been operating along green corridors to ensure minimum transportation time. Multi-disciplinary teams have been deployed for smooth functioning.
Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway (SCR) lauded officers and staff who have been toiling to ensure the smooth supply. He said these trains are being operated with the highest sense of urgency to ensure that medical oxygen reach the states as quickly as possible. He advised the team to continue the same level of monitoring so as to provide hassle-free and seamless operation of the trains.
