Melbourne: Former World number one and 23-time Grand slam champion Serena Williams on Monday defeated Laura Siegemund 6-1, 6-1 in 55 minutes to book her place in the second round of the Australian Open.

After her win, the 39-year-old tried to wrap up the on-court interview quickly as she wanted to catch the Super Bowl between Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chief, with Tom Brady looking to win a seventh ring.

During her on-court interview, when Serena was told Tampa Bay Buccaneers were leading in the Super Bowl, she said, "Ok, I got to go, I got to go, you're (the on-court interviewer) taking so long. I'm trying to go finish and see the rest of this. I'm American, we love the Super Bowl, so, you know, Tom Brady is in my age group, so you know, it's exciting."

Speaking about her inspiration Tom Brady, Williams said, "Oh Absolutely, he's amazing, you know, to be competing at the, I mean, for us (Americans), one of the biggest championships in the world, it's, at 43 (years old), is unheard of and you know, it's super inspiring for me at my ripe young age of thirty-something, so yeah."
