Tokyo: The Diving World Cup in Tokyo, which is also serving as a test event for the Olympics, appears to be in doubt with conflicting media reports about whether it has been cancelled after some of the participating teams expressed their reluctance to travel to Japan.
BBC Sport reports the event has been cancelled by the sport's international governing body, FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) because the organisers' planned Covid-19 precautions "will not properly ensure" athletes' safety.
In a letter seen by the BBC, FINA also criticises the Japanese government who, in their opinion, "did not take all the necessary measures to ensure successful and fair" competition.
