  • The Sports Ministry has sanctioned a sum of Rs 7.87 crore as an out-of-pocket allowance for athletes training in 99 Khelo India academies and other centres across the country. As many as 2,625 athletes were chosen to train in various sporting disciplines under the Khelo India Talent Development Scheme. • Former Asian Games and World University Games gold-medallist shot-putter Inderjeet Singh was suspended for four years after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found him guilty for doping. The decision comes after the National Anti-Doping Association (NADA) Appeal Panel gave a clean chit to the athlete last year, following which the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) appealed to the CAS against the decision. Inderjeet’s suspension, however, will be reduced to less than two years as he has already served out two years, four months and 19 days of his suspension. He was earlier suspended from July 25, 2016 to December 14, 2018, when the NADA had found him not guilty.
  • Indian shuttler Kaushal Dharmamer clinched the men's singles title at the Maldives International Challenge with a straight-games win over compatriot Siril Verma. Elsewhere, India’s star para shuttler Pramod Bhagat won two golds at the China Para-Badminton Internationals as the Indian contingent finished the tournament with six medals.
  • The Indian women’s team has made the cut for the FIBA Pre-Qualifying Olympic event despite finishing last in the ongoing Asia Cup. The news comes after the international basketball federation decided to include India in the qualifiers due to unavailability of a host for Division-B matches. The FIBA Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament for 2020 Tokyo Games in the Asia-Oceania region is slated to start from November 14.
  • The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has sacked men's freestyle coach Hossein Karimi just six months into his tenure, claiming that the Iranian brought with himself a VIP culture which cannot be followed in the country. Karimi allegedly refused to wipe the sweat of the wrestlers which all the coaches do during bouts or during practice sessions and expressed reservations on touching the sweat-soaked players. Interestingly, Karimi's contract was to run till the Tokyo Olympics.
  • 2016 Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik was dropped from the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) programme. The decision was taken by the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Mission Olympic Cell that identifies potential medal winners in the Olympics and offers them financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 a month. Malik, who has been struggling of late has been replaced by Young wrestler Ravi Dahiya, who recently won a bronze medal in the World Championships and ensured India with an Olympic quota in the men’s 57 Kg freestyle category.
  • Young racing driver Jehan Daruvala finished third at the FIA F3 Championship, which concluded with the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. With this finish, Daruvala scripted the best championship position ever by an Indian in an official F1 feeder series.
  • Sumit Nagal once again proved his mettle on Sunday as he clinched the ATP Challenger Tournament in Buenos Aires after beating Facundo Bognis in the men's singles final.
