Ranchi: Olympians Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das are set to get married today. Due to the ongoing COVID-19, strict measures such as wearing masks and other protective gears and use of sanitisers have been ensured in the wedding ceremony. Incumbent Chief Minister of Jharkhand Mr. Hemant Soren, incumbent Governor of Jharkhand Mrs. Draupadi Murmu and former India men’s cricket team skipper MS Dhoni might all mark their presence in the ceremony.
Deepika is very excited about the wedding. She said, “Wedding ceremonies are quite amazing. Initially, I thought it would be very boring but it is all very exciting."
Regarding her career post marriage, Deepika said, "After marriage, Atanu and I will return to practice to prepare for the Olympics."
The groom Atanu Das has also reached Ranchi from Kolkata. Both sides are following their own rituals regarding the marriage ceremony.
The wedding of Indian archers Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das will include former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and incumbent President of Archery Association of India Mr. Arjun Munda. He is set to do the ‘Kanyadaan’ ritual of Deepika. Arjun Munda has played an integral role in helping Deepika become the best archer.
Deepika has been 5 times Gold medallists in the Archery World Cup, out of which she won the title 2 times in an individual level and thrice with the team.
She has also won 13 silver and 5 bronze medals in different events of the World Cup. She has also won silver medals twice in team events of the World Championships.
In 2010, Deepika also won 2 gold medals at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, while also winning the bronze medal at the Asian Games the same year.
She was conferred the Arjuna Award, India's second highest sporting award in the year 2012 by President of India Pranab Mukherjee. In February 2014, she was honoured with FICCI Sportsperson of the Year Award. The Government of India also awarded her the civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2016.
Deepika and Atanu Das first met in the year 2008 and got engaged in 2018.
