Munich: Robert Lewandowski set a new record for the first half of a Bundesliga season on Sunday by netting his 21st league goal of 2020/21 as leaders Bayern Munich went four points clear with a 2-1 win over Freiburg. His tally broke previous Bundesliga record held by the legendary Gerd Muller who scored 20 in 1971-72.
And the Polish striker very nearly made it 22 - denied only by a deflection off the defender's boot and onto the bar.
The mid-table visitors did make things interesting thanks to a piece of far post opportunism from Nils Peterson.
But Bayern got their winner thanks veteran Thomas Mueller in the 74th minute.
The win gives them a four-point lead at the top and will come as a relief to Hansi Flick after two defeats in a row.
It was a remarkable comeback for Luka Jovic on his first game back for Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Real Madrid, That was his first goal after coming on as a substitute which gave Frankfurt a 2-1 lead over Schalke.
And then in injury time, the Serbian showed his pace and the finishing touch that has eluded him under Zinedine Zidane.
These were his first goals for the club since scoring in Madrid's 4-1 win over Osasuna last February, and his 38th in 76 career games for Frankfurt.
It was the first game back for Jovic and the last for Frankfurt captain David Abraham who is retiring.
