Amsterdam: Germany trained at the Johan Cruyff Arena here on Saturday ahead of Sunday's Euro 2020 qualifier against Netherlands.

The neighbouring countries will do battle again having met twice in last year's group stage of the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

  • Germany failed to win either of those fixtures, losing 3-0in Amsterdam before conceding two late goals to draw 2-2 in Gelsenkirchen.
  • In total, Germany have won only two of the seven matches they've played since their shock group stage exit at last year's FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, Germany's head coach Joachim Low is currently in the process of rebuilding his team, with experienced trio Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller all left out of the latest squad and of the team that won the 2014 World Cup, only goalkeeper Manuel Neuer featured in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Serbia.

"This is the beginning of the qualification for 2020. We want to start our first match with success and also to finish the qualification successfully. Therefore for us, the result is the most important thing. We are also in the process of developing new players and that's also an important element that we experienced in the match against Serbia," Joachim said.

Also, when asked how Germany will defend against Netherlands' Memphis Depay, Joachim said that their new and different approach to the game will help them stop the 25-year-old striker.

"He (Depay) is a very good player and is also very strong with headers. He is also a very good finisher who gets into duels with his whole body. In the last games, we had many problems with standard situations. That's the important subject that we are dealing with at the moment, also in the match against Serbia. We are talking about that and we have to approach that issue and do things differently," Joachim said.
