Two India U-19 footballers suffer injuries during cable car ride in Turkey

Indian colts were given a day off by coach Floyd Pinto ahead of their final league clash against a local club on Saturday and the youngsters have decided to spend time at the amusement park near to their team hotel.

Hyderabad: A mishap rocked India under-19 football team's tour of Turkey as two players escaped with hairline fractures after they panicked and jumped off a cable car ride in Turkey.

Indian colts were given a day off by coach Floyd Pinto ahead of their final league clash against a local club on Saturday and the youngsters have decided to spend time at the amusement park near to their team hotel.

According to media reports, the players panicked while riding as their cable car stopped midway. The situation prompted them to jump off their vehicle.

A promising forward and a defender, who was scouted recently, suffered injuries.

"The team physiotherapist has submitted a report to the AIFF which states that the players have hairline fractures and should need about a fortnight to recover. Thankfully, there is nothing to worry," a senior AIFF official said.

"I have been told about the incident in Turkey with the India under-19 team and I have sought a report," said AIFF general secretary Kushal Das.

The India under-19 boys are touring Turkey to as part of their preparation for the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers.

So far India have played two matches. After a 2-1 defeat in their opening match, the Indian boys bounced back with a solitary-goal victory.

They were scheduled to take on Jordan in their next game but heavy rains forced them to stay indoors.

The 2020 AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers are scheduled to take place from November 2 in Saudi Arabia.
