Durand Cup: Real Kashmir drub Army Green, inch closer to semis

Real Kashmir will now play FC Goa in their final group fixture on August 17.

Kolkata: Real Kashmir FC Saturday inched closer to semi-final spot as they stunned Army Green 4-0 in the 129th edition of Durand Cup. Meanwhile, Arthur Kouassi netted five goals as Mohammedan Sporting pummel Indian Navy 6-2 in a Durand Cup tie.

With the win, Real Kashmir became the table toppers of Group C with six points from two matches.

Former Churchill Brothers player Chesterpoul Lyngdoh scored a brace (3rd, 39th) while Singam Subash Singh (33rd) and Khaidem Vicky Meitei (90+2) also got on to the scoresheet against Army Green who were reduced to nine players in the second half.

For the Army side, Sajesh Muttath and Laishramnanishsingh were given marching orders in the 52nd and 55th minute, respectively, by referee Crystal John.

Real Kashmir will now play FC Goa in their final group fixture on August 17.

Mohammedan Sporting, meanwhile, returned to winning ways in an eight-goal thriller at the Mohun Bagan ground.

Ivorian forward Kouassi scored the first goal in the 56th minute before adding four more in the 72nd, 76th, 86th and 90th minutes, the final one coming through a penalty.

Ugandan recruit Mudde Musa scored the only other goal for Mohammedan in the 62nd minute.

Britto P.M. netted in the 71st minute to open the scoring for Indian Navy, seconds before Kouassi would net his second.

The final moments of the match saw some intense action, with another penalty coming at 90+6, this time in Navy's favour with Britto taking the day's Durand Cup goal count to 12.
