Sydney: Former Australia cricketer Stuart MacGill was kidnapped and released under alleged circumstances in Sydney last month, media reports revealed.

Four people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping that took place on April 14.

Police arrested the accused after conducting raids across Sydney on Wednesday.

MacGill played 44 Tests and three ODIs for Australia between 1998 and 2008 and took 208 wickets and six, respectively in two formats.

It was learnt that a group of men kidnapped MacGill in the suburban area of Cremorne at night before forcing him into a car, police said.

He was then rushed to Bringelly, on the outskirts of Sydney, where he was allegedly assaulted at gunpoint.

MacGill was released about an hour later in the southwest suburb of Belmore.

According to Sydney police, the arrested members - aged 27, 29, 42 and 46 - would face various changes later on Wednesday.

MacGill lives around the high-end lower-north shore area of Sydney, where he was abducted from.

However, there is no detail on his current condition.
