WBBL 2019: New Zealand's Sophie Devine named Player of the Tournament

Brisbane Heat clinched the Rebel WBBL title for the second time after trouncing the Strikers by six wickets.

Brisbane [Australia]: Adelaide Strikers' Kiwi all-rounder Sophie Devine on Sunday was named the Player of the Tournament of just concluded Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).

The right-handed batter amassed 769 runs at an average of 76.90 in the mega event. Devine was the key cog in the batting wheel of Strikers but failed to leave a mark in the final and scored just five runs.


Brisbane Heat clinched the Rebel WBBL title for the second time after trouncing the Strikers by six wickets.

Strikers had posted a total of 161/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Heat chased down the target in the 19th over with 11 balls remaining.

Beth Mooney was named as the Player of the match for her match-winning half-century in the final.

After the match, Adelaide Strikers captain Suzie Bates heaped praises on her side.

"They've (Adelaide Strikers) been one of the easiest teams to lead. Sophie Devine has been outstanding and inspirational for us. It was a brave performance from Wellington to get us to 160+, give us a chance. Congrats to Kirby and the Heat, you've been brilliant all season and really deserve this win," Bates said, before adding, "Too good for us today and hopefully we'll see you again in the next season at some stage in the finals. My team .... new coach this year - Luke - brilliant to take us to the semis and then to the finals. I couldn't have asked for a better group with such a good vibe."
