Mount Maunganui: A collective batting effort from the Kiwis saw the hosts win the third and final ODI by 5 wickets to clean-sweep the three-match ODI series 3-0.
The opening duo of Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls both struck fifties as they stitched on a 106-run partnership for the first wicket. Chahal outfoxed Guptill (66) through his leg-spin delivery in the 17th over to hand over India their first breakthrough in the match.
Another 53 runs partnership flourished between Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson (22) and Henry Nicholls that helped New Zealand reach the 150-run mark before Kane was sent back to pavilion by Chahal.
Ross Taylor (12) soon followed the suit and got dismissed for cheap as the match suddenly tilted towards the favour of Indians from the grasp of the Kiwis.
An over later, Shardul Thakur got Nicholls caught behind for a well made 80. James Neesham (19) then joined Tom Latham in the middle and ensured that the Kiwis do not choke in the fag end of the innings,
Neesham was dismissed by Chahal in the 40th over, but a blitzkrieg of an innings from Colin de Grandhomme (58 from 28 deliveries) ensured that the Kiwis win the match by 5 wickets.
Tom Latham remained not out after scoring 32 runs.
Yuzvendra Chahal picked up three wickets in the match while the duo of Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja picked up a wicket apiece.
Both the teams are now set to face each other in a two-match Test series that is set to begin from February 21.
