Mohammad Azharuddin elected president of Hyderabad Cricket Association

Azhar, who played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for India, filed his nomination for the president's post in the HCA office last week, and his nomination was endorsed by Adnan Mohamood and seconded by Zeeshan Adnan Mahmood.

Hyderabad: Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been elected as the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Friday. The 56-year-old took a massive lead and eventually won the HCA elections by 147 votes to his closest opponent Prakash Chand Jain, who got 73 votes. Meanwhile, John Manoj has been elected as the vice president of the governing body of Hyderabad cricket.

Azhar, who played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for India, filed his nomination for the president's post in the HCA office last week, and his nomination was endorsed by Adnan Mohamood and seconded by Zeeshan Adnan Mahmood.

His election as president of HCA also denotes his new journey as a cricket administration. Azhar led India in 1992, 1996 and 1999 World Cup events respectively.

Despite being one of the most successful captains for India, allegations of match-fixing put the curtain down on his career in cricket for more than a decade. However, he was finally acquitted from all kind match-fixing allegations in 2012 which enabled him to make a comeback to cricket administrative system. In 2009, he began his journey in politics by joining the Indian National Congress and was also elected as a Member of Parliament.
