KKR opt for World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss

Before being appointed as England's assistant coach to Paul Farbrace Bayliss had a three-year stint with KKR from 2011 to 2014, during which KKR won two trophies

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders have opted for 2019 World Cup-winning coach of England Trevor Bayliss for IPL 2020. Meanwhile, former New Zealand captain and KKR opener Brendon McCullum will join Bayliss as a batting coach. McCullum will fill the void of former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis.

In doing so, KKR will bring two individuals who have played vital roles in rebuilding two teams that were involved in the best ever World Cup final on July 14 at the Lord's.

Before being appointed as England's assistant coach to Paul Farbrace Bayliss had a three-year stint with KKR from 2011 to 2014, during which KKR won two trophies. In that same period, he coached Big Bash team Sydney Sixers. The Australian also coached the Sri Lankans in the 2011 World Cup when they played the final but lost to India.

The 56-year-old will re-join the KKR set-up after the 2019 Ashes that begins next month.

McCullum was a hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman in his heydays in international cricket. His 158 not out for KKR in the inaugural match of 2008 IPL had set the tone of the league. As he sets to return to the KKR fold to work with Bayliss KKR will hope for their third title this time around.
