Jaipur: West Indies' swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle, who represents the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League, became the fastest to reach 4000 IPL runs on Monday, whenhis side clashed against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here.
- With this feat, Gayle joined the elite list of some very successful batsman in the league including the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, and MS Dhoni.
- Overall, Gayle is the 9th batsman and second overseas player to score 4000 runs in the IPL. Australia’s David Warner, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad, is the only other foreigner to have achieved the record.
Also, 39-year-old Gayle broke Warner's record to become the fastest player to achieve the feat as the 'Universe boss' took 112 innings to smash 4000 runs while Warner reached the milestone in his 114th innings.
Interestingly, Gayle has scored 6 centuries - the most by any player in the Indian Premier League. He also has 24 fifties in the IPL and the Caribbean southpaw also holds the record for the highest individual score in the IPL - an unbeaten 175 against Pune Warriors in 2013.
