Exclusive: No place for Kohli, Smith in Monty Panesar's all-time Test XI

Monty Panesar picks only one English cricketer for his all-time Test XI.

Hyderabad: Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his batting nemesis Steven Smith might be among the best Test players of this generation, but the duo has no place in England spinner Monty Panesar's all-time Test XI.

Smith and Kohli, who is currently occupying the first and second spot in ICC Test rankings, respectively, have above 50 plus average in the longest format of the game.

Panesar, in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, revealed his all-time Test, T20I and ODI XI.

The 38-year-old chose Matthew Hayden and Alister Cook as his openers while picking up big names like Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Adam Gilchrist for top-order and middle-order line-up.

In the bowling department, Panesar went with Shane Warne, Wasim Akram and James Anderson.

Monty's ODI XI

Panesar, a veteran of 26 ODIs, also came up with his all-time ODIs XI. He picked Sanath Jayasuriya and Saeed Anwar as his opening pair.

For the third and fourth positions, Panesar chose Sri Lanka's Aravinda de Silva and India's Sachin Tendulkar. Panesar named former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni the captain of his team.

Panesar went with Harbhajan Singh and Muttiah Muralitharan as his spinners while also naming Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar in bowling line-ups.

T20I XI

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who failed to make it in Panesar's all-time Test and ODI teams, was named the captain of his T20I squad.

Panesar picked swashbuckling Australian opener David Warner and England's Jason Roy as his openers for the shortest format of the game. He picked Kohli and Smith for third and fourth position.

The left-arm spinner included just one spinner in his T20Is squad in the form of Rashid Khan, while also naming Mitchell Starc, Lasith Malinga and Jofra Archer to complete the bowling department.
